United States and Libya Jamahiriya Sign Trade and Investment Framework Agreement - May 2010

United States and Libya Sign Trade and Investment Framework Agreement
News of May 2010 (from US Embassy Libya website at this time...)

Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Wilson and General People’s Committee for Economy, Industry, and Trade Under Secretary Sarkez signed a bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, May 2010

After two years of negotiations, visiting Assistant U.S. Trade Representative (A/USTR) Christopher Wilson signed the bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) with Under Secretary Taher M. Sarkez of the General People’s Committee for Economy, Industry, and Trade on May 20, 2010.
U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Gene A. Cretz, welcomed the TIFA as the latest step in a joint effort by the United States and Libya to broaden and deepen our bilateral economic relations.  The TIFA will provide a forum to address trade issues and will help build trade and investment relations between the United States and Libya.  The TIFA also demonstrates the importance of the bilateral relationship to both governments, as well as our mutual interest in cultivating bilateral trade.
A/USTR Wilson emphasized that the TIFA is indeed an important step in developing a more mature and complete relationship between our countries and that the challenge moving forward will be to make the TIFA an active, living agreement.  He explained that TIFA works best when there is ongoing interaction and sustained contact between governments.
The TIFA mandates the formation of a joint U.S.-Libya Council on Trade and Investment that will address a wide range of trade and investment issues including market access, intellectual property, labor, and environmental issues. The Council will also help to increase commercial and investment opportunities by identifying and working to remove impediments to trade and investment flows between the United States and Libya.
In the coming months, the United States and Libya will decide on the composition of the joint Council and will develop a list of short-term agenda items to be addressed by the Council.  For the United States, supporting Libya’s efforts to implement World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations is an important priority and will pave the way for Libya’s accession to the WTO.

Office of the Secretary of State

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Libya as you mark your National Day on September 1.

The United States is committed to working with Libya to achieve these common goals. Although we have only recently reestablished relations between our countries, I hope these new bonds will endure well into the future. - U.S. forces besiege Syria on the eve of the invasion

(May/June 2012 by RT)

A former official from within the ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is reporting that US and NATO forces have landed outside of Syria and are training militants to overthrow the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, formerly a translator with the FBI, wrote over the weekend that American soldiers are among the NATO troops that have mysteriously and suddenly landed on the Jordanian and Syrian border. According to her, several sources internationally have confirmed the news, although the US media has been instructed to temporarily censor itself from reporting the news.

Additionally, Edmonds says that American and NATO forces are training Turkish troops as well, to possibly launch a strike from the north of Syria.

Edmonds writes that an Iraqi journalist based out of London has confirmed that US forces that vacated the Ain al-Assad Air Base in Iraq last week did in fact leave the country as part of President Obama’s drawdown of troops, but rather than return home, the soldiers were transferred into Jordan during the late hours of Thursday evening....
